Wonders in Milange, Malawi

From Blantyre in Malawi, Chris and Jason headed home while I travelled around 200 kilometres to the border town of Milange. Milange is a rural town on the Mozambique/Malawi border, and is predominantly made up of Catholic and Jehovah’s Witnesses.

My daughter Mikhaela joined me on this trip and between the two of us we were able to conduct six evangelistic programs throughout the district. Five of the locations were open-air venues, with our main program being held in the centre of Milange in an old run down hall. A translator was used to translate from English into Portuguese and then the local mother tongue known as Chicheua. Each meeting started with a short health presentation and then the main evangelistic message.

As we were up in the mountains, the weather was cold at night but still a large number attended each of the programs. Many people were making decisions each evening and a number of the listeners mentioned that they really appreciated the messages, saying they had never heard anything like it before.

Rain became a problem for the last few days and we had to miss one night of our presentations. A cyclone over Madagascar pushed a lot of unseasonal rain over Mozambique and our final Sabbath was a wet raining day.

The final Sabbath worship was held in a large stadium and was crammed to capacity with over 5000 people with overflow out side. The Mozambique Union President attended the program along with the local governor of the Milange district. It was pouring rain all morning and we were praying for a miracle that the rain would stop for the baptism in the afternoon. God is good and our miracle arrived! The rain stopped and the sun came out just as we were heading to the baptism site.

The baptisms were held in a large abandoned swimming pool that was cleaned up and filled with water. 677 people were baptised in a very exciting atmosphere with several thousand church members singing and praising God.

Once the baptisms were finished we went back to the venue where Bibles were handed out to the candidates and the whole day ended on a very high note.

Pastor Miguel Simoque is the Director of Evangelism for the Mozambique Union and conducts the groundwork for all our campaigns in this country. When he first met us with his big smile and huge African laugh and said, “We are going to see wonders in Milange.” He was right! Wonders in Milange we did see!

Thank you once again for your continued financial support and prayers that make this end time work a success.
